Further information has been released about the 32nd season schedule at Repertorio Espanol, where the works of Garcia Lorca, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Abelardo Estorino join other works now being presented in rotating repertory at the Gramercy Arts Theatre through late May and early June. Highlights include audience favorite, Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Cronica De Una Muerte Anunciada (“Chronicle of a Death Foretold”). Conceived and directed by Jorge Ali Triana, Cronica is the story of a wedding, a scandal and a murder to which an entire Latin American town appears to be an accessory. The Marquez play is running now through May 25.
Also featured are the Dominican Republic's Teatro Gayumba productions of Don Quijote Y Sancho Panza, Esta Era Una Vez and Cazadores Del Arca Perdida at the Gramercy from May 30-June 10.
Extended in repertory past the original May 25 closing date are Garcia Lorca's family tragedy, La Casa De Bernarda Alba (The House of Bernarda Alba) scheduled to run April 28-June 1; and leading Cuban playwright Abelardo Estorino's El Baile (The Dance), starring Cuba's leading actress Adria Santana, scheduled to run April 29-May 28; and Yo Amo A Shirley (I Love Shirley), an adaptation of Willy Russell's Shirley Valentine starring leading Colombian actress Fanny Mikey, running from June 1-11.
As reported earlier, these theatrical highlights are only part of the seasons' overall dance and performing arts schedule. Repertorio Espanol continues its Cubateatro cultural exchange program with Cuba, and the theatre also has numerous dance events including the return of Spanish dance sensation Pilar Rioja through April 23. *
The full theatrical season comprises the recently completed run of Garcia Lorca's Yerma which was in repertory from March 10-April 1; La Casa De Bernarda Alba in repertory April 28-June 1; Cronica De Una Muerte Anunciada continuing thru May 25; Carmen Rivera's La Gringa continuing through May 26; Proxima Parada (The Next Stop) continuing thru May 13; Casa Propia (A House of Our Own) by Dolores Prida continuing through May 17; Abelardo Estorino's Parece Blanca (She Looks White) continuing thru May 24; El Baile (The Dance) in repertory April 29-May 28; Te Juro, Juana, Que Tengo Ganas (I Swear to You, Jane, I Have an Itch for You) by Emilio Carballido closes April 16; and Cuentos Afro Caribenos (Afro Caribbean Tales) by Adolfo Vazquez closes April 26.
