The Rude Mechanicals, the young Off-Off-Broadway troupe, go from their recent production of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale to a classic of more recent vintage: Endgame. The company will present Samuel Beckett's existential masterpiece May 4-28 at the 30th Street Theatre in Manhattan.

Endgame features four characters: Hamm, an autocratic, blind wheelchair-bound old sod who berates, yet depends upon Clov, his long suffering servant, and barely tolerates Nagg and Nell, his aged parents, now relegated to two trash cans from which they sometimes emerge. All are trapped in a bleak, charmless room, presumedly an oasis from the ruins of an apocalyptic world outside.

In the cast are David Fitzgerald, Matthew Lawler, David Walters, Jack Marks, and, at certain performances, Eve Packer. Stephen Golux directs.

The Mechanicals' mounting of A Winter's Tale was played on a dirt floor, lined with chairs on which the actors sat when not acting, and featured songs by the rock band Junior Fudge. It ran at Off-Off-Broadway's Walker Space, Feb. 3-27.

The Rude Mechanicals' other recent productions have included Largo Desolato and (wish) [sic]. Tickets are $15. The theatre is located at 259 W. 30th Street. For more information call (212) 414-5136, or consult the website as www.rudemechanicals.org.
