Classic Arts News Operatic Con Man Arrested in Vienna A man has been arrested in Vienna after abandoning an opera production in an apparent fraud, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports.
The 29-year-old man, who called himself Peter Kafka, produced a staging of Beethoven's Leonora to be performed at Vienna's Palais Schwarzenberg. On the eve of the premiere last week, he disappeared, leaving 400,000 euros in debt.

Director Wolfgang Riztberger told the DPA that he was unsure how "Kafka" intended to profit from the scheme, but suggested that he planned to steal sponsorship money or ticket receipts.
