News Oresteia Adaptation to Play Access Theater Aeschylus' Oresteia, adapted by David Johnston, will run Feb. 14-March 10 at Access Theater.

Access and Blue Coyote Theater Group are presenting the work, which will be directed by Stephen Speights. Opening is Feb. 17.

The cast includes Frank Anderson, Kyle Ancowitz, Brendan Bradley, Bryce Gill, Nell Gwynn, Heidi Jackson, Kathy Lichter, Jonna McElrath, Sarah Schoenberg, Gary Shrader and Robyn Weiss.

In the play, according to press notes, "Agamemnon returns from the Trojan War to find his wife may not have forgiven him for sacrificing their daughter. Orestes returns from exile to find Dad dead, his sister mad and his mother in bed with his cousin. And whatever you do, avoid the Kindly Ones….Drawing from mythology, bloody horror films, and a black streak of gallows humor, celebrated playwright David Johnston infuses this classic Greek tragedy with astounding comic subversion."

Set design is by Robert Monaco, lighting design is by Evan O'Brient, original music is by Margaret F. Heskin, sound design and additional music is by Brandon Wolcott and masks are by Michelle Ross.

Johnston’s works have been performed and read at the New Group, the Neighborhood Playhouse, Henry Street Settlement, Ensemble Studio Theatre and Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre. Speights is a producer and founding member of Blue Coyote Theater Group. His directing credits include the world premieres of Brian Dykstra’s Two Totally Naked Guys Standing Around Talking About Blasphemy Without Getting All That Violent About It and Boo Killibrew’s True Love Waits.
