David Osmond, Alan's son and Donny's nephew, fill the title role. Backing David are six of his brothers: Michael, Nathan, Scott, Jon, Alex and Tyler. Crazy for You's Jodi Benson plays the narrator.

David follows in the footsteps of his uncle, who scored a success in Joseph a few years back. (In fact, David understudied Donny during that tour's Salt Lake City stop.) The original Osmond Brothers made their name in the early 1970s with a string of pop hits such as "One Bad Apple." The "Osmond Second Generation" has been recording since 1990.
