News Overwhelming Playwright Rogers Featured on NY1's "On Stage"
J.T. Rogers, whose Rwanda drama The Overwhelming currently plays Off-Broadway, will appear on NY1's "On Stage" Nov. 17.

The theatre program that airs locally on Channel 1 will repeat during the weekend. Patrick Pacheco talks to the scribe about Rogers' inspiration for the play, which is set prior to the 1994 genocide.

Max Stafford-Clark stages the Roundabout Theatre Company Off-Broadway engagement of The Overwhelming that runs through Dec. 23. Previews began Sept. 28, and the show opened Oct. 23 at the Laura Pels Theatre.

The Overwhelming follows the "story of an American family, newly arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, in early 1994, who come face-to-face with the realization that nothing and no one around them is what they understood it to be," according to show notes. "Finding themselves embroiled in events beyond their understanding, three Americans struggle to discover who they can trust and what they will do when faced with matters of life and death."

The ensemble features Chris Chalk, Ron Cephas Jones, Tisola Logan, Boris McGiver, Owiso Odera, Charles Parnell, Linda Powell, James Rebhorn, Sam Robards, Michael Stahl-David and Sharon Washington. The Overwhelming made its world premiere in May 2006 at London's Cottesloe Theatre. The production was presented by the National Theatre in association with Out of Joint and then toured England through the fall of 2006.

Tickets to The Overwhelming are available by calling Roundabout Ticket Services at (212) 719-1300, visiting the Laura Pels box office (111 West 46 Street) or online at www.roundabouttheatre.org.
