PlayBlog Paper Mill Playhouse's Newsies Cast Says Thank You to the "Fansies" (Video) Newsies, the world premiere stage adaptation of the 1992 Disney movie musical, wrapped up its run Oct. 16 at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. However, before the newsboys would "Carry the Banner" for the last time, they took some time to create two backstage videos at Paper Mill in which they thank the "Fansies" for their ongoing support.

When Newsies opened Sept. 25, following previews that began Sept. 15, at Paper Mill, the show instantly gained a cult following — much like the '92 feature film. "Fansies," as they were called by the cast and creative team at Paper Mill, came from all over the country to take part in the Newsies action.

With all of the hype surrounding the new musical directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun, the New Jersey venue contacted Kenny Ortega, original director and choreographer of the 1992 feature film, and cast members from the movie to partake in a Fan Day event Oct. 2. Fans were given the opportunity to meet the stars and creative team of both the movie and the musical. They were also treated to a special talkback featuring both casts prior to the evening performance. Check out Playbill.com's feature on Newsies fan day.

Newsies starred Bonnie & Clyde's Jeremy Jordan as Jack Kelly, Tony nominee John Dossett as newspaper giant Joseph Pulitzer, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, RJ Fattori and Vincent Agnello sharing the role of Les, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie and Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber.
