Spokesman Jim Byk told Playbill On-Line the new staging would be, in many respects, a reproduction of the popular Broadway show, which opened at the Shubert Theatre on Feb. 19, 1992, and ran for several years. No casting has been decided for the lead roles of Bobby Child, a New York playboy who travels West, and Polly Baker, the local girl with whom he falls in love. Harry Groener and Jodi Benson played those roles on Broadway, under the direction of Mike Ockrent. Susan Stroman provided the career-making choreography.

According to a casting notice in Back Stage, James Brennen will direct the Paper Mill show and Angelique Ilo will be choreographer.

Crazy for You is a modern reworking of the classic George and Ira Gershwin musical Girl Crazy, which starred Ethel Merman when it debuted in 1930. Ken Ludwig reworked the original book by Guy Bolton and John McGowan. The original score included such classics as "But Not for Me," "Embraceable You," and "I Got Rhythm." To this, the Crazy for You creators added several other Gershwin songs, including What Causes That? and Naughty Baby.
