Scott Rudin and Allison Owen will produce the motion picture for Miramax Films. Also involved in the movie are BBC Films, the U.K. Film Council and Ruby Films.

Helen Edmundson adapted "Coram Boy" for the play of the same name, which was a hit at London's National Theatre but a flop on Broadway this past season.

The New York premiere of the National Theatre of Great Britain's Coram Boy played its final performance at Broadway's Imperial Theatre May 27. The production played 18 previews and 30 regular performances. Although the visually stunning production received six Tony Award nominations, the play consistently struggled at the box office.

Set in 18th-century England, the music-infused production told the tale of "two orphans at the Coram Hospital for Deserted Children: Toby, saved from an African slave ship and Aaron, the abandoned son of the heir to a great estate."

Alan Parker's numerous directorial credits include "The Life of David Gale," "Angela's Ashes," "Fame," "The Commitments" and "Evita." He was nominated for Best Director Academy Awards for "Mississippi Burning" and "Midnight Express."
