Longtime theatre critic John Lahr named the shows on the new list, which also includes two musical revivals (South Pacific and Gypsy) as well as a reading of Arthur Kopit's Discovery of America.
Discovery of America (Lincoln Center) Also of note to theatre folk: New Yorker writer Hilton Als included Carey Mulligan (Nina in The Seagull) and S. Epatha Merkerson (Come Back, Little Sheba) among "The Eleven Best Performances of Stage and Screen."
The production will include Bernstein’s incidental music for Lillian Hellman’s adaptation of The Lark, and Menotti’s The Unicorn, The Gorgon, and The Manticore.
Based on the novel and film by Frank Cottrell Boyce, the new musical will reunite Guettel with Tony-winning Light in the Piazza director Bartlett Sher.
