News Paul Rhys Pulls Out of London Ivanov

Paul Rhys, whose appearance in Chekhov's Ivanov at the National was announced earlier this month, has had to withdraw from the production owing to a family illness.

The title role will now be played by Owen Teale. He has been directed by Katie Mitchell before, in her production of The Country at the Royal Court. Previous theatre roles include Mark Antony in Julius Caesar, Edmund in King Lear and The King of Navarre in Love's Labour's Lost for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Ivanov was originally scheduled to begin previews on Sept. 2 with a press night on Sept. 10. The preview performances on Sept. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and the matinee performance on Sept. 7 have now been canceled.

The production, directed by Katie Mitchell, will now open at the Cottesloe on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 PM, following preview performances beginning Saturday, Sept. 7.
