Pavarotti Fan Steps into the Spotlight

Classic Arts News   Pavarotti Fan Steps into the Spotlight
An enthusiastic Taiwanese fan of Luciano Pavarotti interrupted the tenor's press conference yesterday in Taiwan with a uninvited rendition of O Sole Mio, reports the South African Press Association.

After walking into the news conference at the Evergreen Laurel Hotel in Taichung, central Taiwan, Chang Pu-he, an amateur singer in his 30s based in Canada, begged Pavarotti to accept him as a student.

Pu-he said he was a lifelong fan and modestly declared himself the "Pavarotti of China," explaining that he had flown from Canada to Taichung to meet the tenor. According to the SAPA, his not-particularly-tuneful rendition was interrupted midway by organizers.

The Italian opera star plans to retire from singing after finishing his lengthy farewell tour.
