Sources at both the Roundabout Theatre Company and Public Broadcasting System (PBS) confirm that PBS' "Stage on Screen" series will broadcast a live stage performance of Roundabout's The Man Who Came to Dinner on Oct. 7. A Los Angeles press conference is scheduled later this afternoon and additional details are expected to be available.
A PBS source told Playbill On-Line that other plays are already scheduled for the series including regional productions of A.R. Gurney's Far East as well as Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992, Anna Deavere Smith’s one-woman show based on the 1992 Rodney King beating, trial, controversial verdicts and subsequent riots.
Roundabout's The Man Who Came Dinner, which stars Nathan Lane and Jean Smart, is in previews at the American Airlines Theatre. The show opens July 27.
