Classic Arts News PBS to Broadcast Carnegie Hall's Season-Opening Gala, Featuring Cleveland Orchestra, Andsnes and Quasthoff The opening gala for the new season at Carnegie Hall, set for this Wednesday (October 4) at 7 pm, will be broadcast next week on PBS.
The concert, to be aired as part of the network's Great Performances series, features Franz Welser-M‹st conducting the Cleveland Orchestra in festive music by Franz von Supp_ and Johann Strauss, Jr., Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 and songs from Mahler's collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Joining the Clevelanders are pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and baritone Thomas Quasthoff.

"Carnegie Hall Opening Night 2006" airs on PBS beginning Wednesday, October 11; in New York City, the program beings at 10 pm on WNET, channel 13 (check local listings for schedules and possible rebroadcasts).
