News PBS to Offer Rebroadcast of Wasserstein's "Uncommon Women" Wendy Wasserstein's "Uncommon Women and Others," which was initially aired during PBS' 1978 Great Performances season, will be rebroadcast in April.

WNET/Channel 13 will broadcast the work that launched the late playwright's career on April 22 at 10:50 PM. The cast for the TV production features Jill Eikenberry, Ann McDonough, Alma Cuervo, Ellen Parker, Swoosie Kurtz, Josephine Nichols, Cynthia Herman, Meryl Streep and Anna Levine. "Uncommon Women and Others," which was adapted by Wasserstein from her play of the same title, focuses "on five old friends meeting for lunch seven years after graduation from a prestigious women’s college. One is a successful corporate lawyer, another a housewife and mother. Also on hand: a perennial student, an insurance seminar hostess and a brash would-be writer. The reunion sets the scene for a series of flashbacks to their senior year when they were part of the 'uncommon' group who were going to be pretty amazing by the time they were 30."

Tony Award-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein died on Jan. 30 at the age of 55. Wasserstein earned the Pulitzer Prize in Drama for The Heidi Chronicles — which also won her a Tony Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. Her other plays include Isn’t It Romantic, The Sisters Rosensweig, Uncommon Women and Others, An American Daughter, Old Money and the recent Third.
