More than 6,300 items associated with novelist, lyricist and librettist P.G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) will go on sale at Sotheby's auction house in New York June 26. Though Wodehouse is best known for his popular Jeeves stories (later adapted as the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical By Jeeves), he also had a prolific career in the theatre, and was, in fact, one of Broadway most successful and influential lyricists prior to and during the 20s. His musicals include Leave It to Jane (1917), written with Jerome Kern and Guy Bolton; Oh, Kay! (1926), written with George and Ira Gershwin and Bolton; The Three Musketeers (1928), written with Rudolf Friml, Clifford Grey, and William Anthony McGuire; and Anything Goes (1934), written with Cole Porter and Bolton. He also contributed lyrics to Show Boat.

Among the items on the block are lyrics Wodehouse wrote in collaboration with Bolton, Kern, Porter, and the Gershwins. The auction trove will go on view June 21. The materials were all once part of the estate of James H. Heineman, a New York publisher.
