Classic Arts News Philadelphia Orchestra and Philly Pops Considering Merger The Philadelphia Orchestra and Philly Pops are considering combining their administrative operations, and perhaps merging entirely, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
"As far as [combining] board, musicians, and governance—that's all up for discussion," Pops executive director Steven P. Haines told the paper.

The Philly Pops was founded in 1981, and is led by pianist Peter Nero. It shares some musicians with the Philadelphia Orchestra, according to the Inquirer.

The Philadelphia Orchestra has also discussed a merger with the Kimmel Center, the headquarters of both ensembles. But those talks are currently on hold, the paper says.
