The award, which carries a $50,000 prize, was created in honor of Fred Ebb (one half of the Kander and Edd duo that wrote Cabaret and Chicago, among other well-known musicals) to "recognize excellence in musical theatre songwriting by a lyricist, composer, or songwriting team that has not yet achieved significant commercial success." At left, Hal Prince, Sheldon Harnick, Chita Rivera and John Kander are seen after the ceremony. Below, Harvey Fierstein (Fiddler on the Roof) and Bucchino revel in the moment at the reception for the Fred Ebb Award.
