Elizabeth Franz of Morning's at 7 and Alan Bates of Fortune's Fool, both from Drama League-nominated revivals, lost the award to The Crucible. The Goat or Who Is Sylvia? brought its Hollywood stars, Mercedes Ruehl and Bill Pullman out to the Drama League luncheon, but lost to Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses.

The Drama League dolled out their Awards for Distinguished Productions to Urinetown, The Crucible and Metamorphoses. Liam Neeson took home the Distinguished Performance kudos for his portrayal of The Crucible's conflicted John Proctor. The prizes were announced at a May 10 luncheon at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan.
