Fosca (Judy Kuhn) is an ugly invalid who snares the soldier Giorgio (Michael Cerveris) with her obsessive love, teaching him much about the nature of passion. Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's Passion plays at the Kennedy Center through Aug. 23.

Based on Ettore Scola's Italian film "Passion d'Amore," Passion is the tale of obsessive love between Giorgio, a handsome young soldier and Fosca, a sick, ugly woman. The musical had short Broadway run, but won the 1994 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical.
