News PHOTO CALL: Peter Friedman, Annie Golden, Kevin Cahoon and Cast of The Shaggs Meet the Press Annie Golden, Peter Friedman, Kevin Cahoon and the cast of the new musical The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World, an Off-Broadway co-production between Playwrights Horizons and New York Theatre Workshop, met the press on April 11.

The cast, in addition to Golden, Friedman and Cahoon, features Steve Routman, Emily Walton, Jamey Hood, Cory Michael Smith and Sarah Sokolovic.

The Shaggs — with book by Joy Gregory; music by Gunnar Madsen; lyrics by Gregory and Madsen; and story by Gregory, Madsen and John Langs — is a fact-inspired story set in New Hampshire in the early '70s, when a working class dad (Friedman) has a vision of rock 'n' roll destiny for his three talentless daughters (Hood, Sokolovic and Walton). According to PH notes, "[He's] convinced they're his family's one-way ticket out of hardship and obscurity. But the girls have ideas of their own — and as their father's ambition turns to obsession, the price of familial obligation becomes all too clear."
