Bells Are Ringing was specifically written for Judy Holliday, who defined the role of Ella Peterson, a sweet-natured woman who tries to help solve the problems of her phone answering service customers, but only seems to get more and more entangled in their lives. Sydney Chaplin starred as Holliday's leading man, playwright Jeff Moss. With Faith Prince as Ella, Bells Are Ringing saw its first Broadway revival in the 2001 season. Bells Are Ringing was nominated for the 1957 Tony Award for Best Musical.
