News PHOTO CALL: Shepard's Kicking a Dead Horse, with Rea, Opens Off-Broadway The U.S. premiere of Sam Shepard's Kicking a Dead Horse, starring Stephen Rea, opened at Off-Broadway's Public Theater (in the Martinson Hall) July 14.

Shepard directs his own work presented in its American debut by The Public Theatre and Ireland's Abbey Theatre. Rea stars as Hobart in the new play "about the West, a Manhattan art dealer and a dead horse," according to show notes. Elissa Piszel is also featured in the non-speaking role of Young Woman.

Actor Rea has been seen on film in "The Crying Game," "V for Vendetta" and "Breakfast on Pluto." The actor also earned a Tony Award nomination for Someone Who'll Watch Over Me.
