News PHOTO CALL: Sondheim and Friends Muse on Children and Art at the Master's Birthday Celebration Stephen Sondheim, the composer-lyricist who with his work changed the course of American musical theatre, gathered with friends and celebrities to celebrate his 75th birthday with an event titled Children and Art on March 21.

The concert portion of the celebration, held at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, featured such notable stars as George Hearn, Brian d'Arcy James, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Cynthia Nixon and David Hyde Pierce to name a few. The evening was presented by former president William Jefferson Clinton and Barbra Streisand. Following the entertainment, guests enjoyed dinner at famed Four Seasons on East 52nd Street in New York City. All proceeds benefited Young Playwrights Inc., an organization founded by Sondheim in 1981.
