The stage production, based on the popular late 1980's film of the same name, concerns two dirty and rotten con artists who prey on the naive for their own financial and material gain. The film starred Michael Caine and Steve Martin in the roles now occupied by John Lithgow (The Sweet Smell of Success, M. Butterfly) and Norbert Leo Butz (The Last Five Years, Wicked).
Old Globe artistic director and Tony-winner Jack O'Brien (The Full Monty, Hairspray) directs a cast that is lead by Lithgow, Butz and Sherie Rene Scott (Aida).
Seen arriving at the opening night reception at the Old Globe are, at left, Joanna Gleason and Jack O'Brien, Sherie Rene Scott and husband Ken Deutch, and O'Brien, Lithgow, and Butz.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels features music and lyrics by David Yazbek and a book by Jeffrey Lane. The production plays in San Diego Sept. 22 through Oct 31.
