The one-person show features a bravura performance by actor Jefferson Mays, who effortlessly shifts from person to person, totalling 35 characters with a peppering of international accents before the evening is through.

The play chronicles the true life story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf—a German transvestite who survived not only the Third Reich, but the oppressive Communist regime that followed—and scribe Doug Wright's own struggle to document what he believes is her important story. Wright himself is a character within the piece.
