Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Bourne's Edward Scissorhands Set to Open in London The ambitious stage version of Tim Burton's movie Edward Scissorhands: staged by choreographer Matthew Bourne (Swan Lake, Mary Poppins) : recently completed a week-long tryout in Plymouth, England, prior to its official London opening on November 30.
Edward Scissorhands is the story of a not-so-normal man (he has scissors in place of hands) and his difficulty fitting into suburbia after being hidden away in the mysterious dwelling of his youth for years.

Bourne saw success on Broadway during the 1998-99 season in which he won Tony Awards for Best Direction and Best Choreography of a musical for his all-male version of Swan Lake. More recently, Bourne choreographed Disney's Mary Poppins, which is scheduled to open in November 2006 at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre.

At left and below, dancers Sam Archer and Richard Winsor, who share the role of Edward, are seen with fellow cast members Kerry Biggin, Mami Tomotani and Etta Murfitt in Edward Scissorhands at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth.
