Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Dawn Upshaw in Golijov's Ainadamar Santa Fe Opera premiered a new production of Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar ("The Foundation of Tears") on July 30. The company's staging runs through August 26.
Soprano Dawn Upshaw stars as actress Margarita Xirgu, reprising the role she sang when Tanglewood presented the opera's world premiere in 2003.

The libretto, which depicts the final days of poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, is by playwright David Henry Hwang. Peter Sellars directs.

The set design is by the painter Gronk; costumes are by Gabriel Berry; lighting is by James F. Ingalls.

Miguel Harth-Bedoya, music director of the Fort Worth Symphony, is the conductor.
