The September 8 performance included excerpts from Strauss' Capriccio, Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Puccini's Turandot, Rachel Portman's The Little Prince, Frank Loesser's The Most Happy Fella, Mark Adamo's Lysistrata, Mozart's Don Giovanni, Bizet's Carmen, and Handel's Acis and Galatea. Pop singer Rufus Wainwright, an opera lover, also put in an appearance, dressed as Escamillo from Carmen.

The festival also included a performance of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, introduced by actress Cynthia Nixon, on September 9. Tickets for the event, all priced at $25, sold out in less than a week after they went on sale last month.
