Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Porgy and Bess at Washington National Opera Washington National Opera premiered its anticipated new production of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess on October 29.
The opening-night cast included Gordon Hawkins and Indira Mahajan in the title roles, Terry Cook as Crown, and Jermaine Smith as Sportin' Life.

Francesca Zambello is the director; Wayne Marshall conducts. The production team also includes associate director and choreographer Denni Sayers, set designer Peter J. Davison, costume designer Paul Tazewell, and lighting designer Mark McCullough.

The production runs through November 19. It will be seen in a free simulcast on the National Mall on November 6 and heard via a live national radio broadcast on November 12.
