Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Regina at Bard SummerScape A new production of Marc Blitzstein's Regina opened at the Bard SummerScape festival on July 29.
The 1949 opera has a libretto by the composer, based on Lillian Hellman's play The Little Foxes. It tells the story of an aristocratic Southern family scheming to secure its wealth.

Bard's production is directed by Peter Schneider; Judy Pfaff is the set designer. Costumes and lighting are by Garry Lennon and Kevin Adams, respectively.

Soprano Lauren Flanigan stars as Regina. Leon Botstein, the polymath president of Bard College, conducts the American Symphony Orchestra.

The SummerScape Festival, which runs through August 28, focuses this year on the works of Aaron Copland and his contemporaries. Regina runs through August 6 at the Sosnoff Theater at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts.
