Classic Arts News Pianist Geri Allen Joins University of Michigan Faculty Jazz pianist Geri Allen has joined the faculty of the University of Michigan School of Music, where she will teach in the Jazz and Improvisational Studies department, the Ann Arbor News reports.
A native of Detroit, Allen has recorded many albums as a leader, as well as accompanying Charles Lloyd, Ron Carter, Greg Osby, Ornette Coleman, Betty Carter, and others. She has previously taught at Howard University.

Allen's latest recording is The Life of a Song, released in August on Telarc in conventional format and on Super Audio CD. Her first disc in six years, it features Dave Holland on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums.
