News Piazza's Yeargan and Akerlind Among Design Award Winners The American Theatre Wing has announced the winners of the annual Henry Hewes Design Awards, which honor designers for their work on Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off Off-Broadway.

Originally titled the Maharam Awards and later known as the American Theatre Wing Design Awards, the awards were renamed in 1999 to honor founder Henry Hewes. Sixty-nine designers were nominated for their work in 51 productions during the 2004-2005 season.

William Ivey Long for La Cage aux Folles

Lighting Design
Christopher Akerlind for The Light in the Piazza and Belle Epoque Notable Effects
Basil Twist (production design)
Symphonie Fantastique (Dodger Stages)
Darron L. West (sound)
Hot 'n' Throbbing (Signature Theatre Company)

Winners will be presented with their awards during a luncheon at the famed Sardi's Restaurant on Nov. 11. This year's Awards Committee included theatre critics Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, chair; Tish Dace; Michael Feingold; Glenda Frank; Mario Fratti; Randy Gener; Henry Hewes; and Joan Ungaro.
