The Connecticut Repertory Theatre brings its 1997 Nutmeg Summer Series to a close with the Connecticut premiere of Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapin Agile, running July 18-26.

The popular comedy follows the chance meeting of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a small French cafe at the turn of the century. Both try to pick up the same pretty girl, and the result is a comical debate between the two men about the nature of true genius.

Since its premiere at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre in 1994, Picasso. . . has received much critical acclaim. In October of 1995, the show opened in New York, where it garnered the1996 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway play. The New York cast then toured to Theatre on the Square in San Francisco, where the sold out run was extended for several months.

Victoria Bussert, co-Artistic Director of Cleveland’s Great Lakes Theatre Festival, directs a seasoned cast led by Seth Kanor (Picasso) and Richard Ruiz (Einstein).

Picasso will be performed in the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre on Hillside Road of the University of Connecticut Storrs campus until July 26.
