First Look At Christopher Tierney As Johnny Castle in the National Tour of Dirty Dancing On Aug. 19 Christopher Tierney stepped into the dancing shoes of Johnny Castle, the role made iconic by Patrick Swayze in the film, for the national tour of Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage. The opening, at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago, marked the launch of the North American tour's second year.

Tierney, who was last seen on Broadway as Flash in Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, joins Gillian Abbott as Frances “Baby” Houseman, as well as Doug Carpenter, Jerome Harmann-Hardeman, Ryan Jesse, Gary Lynch, Scott McCreary, Herman Petras, Alex Scolari, Margot White, Mark Elliot Wilson and Jenny Winton. The ensemble comprises John Antony, Rachel Marie Bell, Rachel Boone, Josh Drake, Rashaan James II, Joshua Keith, Alexandra Matteo, Katelyn Prominski, Amy Quanbeck, Adam Roberts, Jennlee Shallow, Paul Victor and Devan Watring.

Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage features a book by Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the screenplay to the film, direction by James Powell and choreography by Michele Lynch based on the original choreography by Kate Champion. The show follows the same story-line as the film: a young woman falls in love with a dance instructor at a Catskill Mountain resort, and features several of the hit songs from the silver screen including "The Time of My Life," "Hungry Eyes," "Hey Baby" and "Do You Love Me? The creative team also includes Stephen Brimson Lewis (set design), Tim Mitchell (lighting design), Jennifer Irwin (costume design), Bobby Aitken (sound design), Jon Driscoll (video and projection design), Bernie Ardia (hair design), Conrad Helfrich (music supervisor and orchestrations) and Alan Plado (music director).

The production began as a staged workshop in New York in 2001 before heading to Australia for a full debut staging. It has since toured the world and enjoyed a long and successful run on London's West End.
