Pike will star opposite the previously announced Judi Dench as her mother. Michael Grandage will direct the production, which will play through May 29, 2009. Set in Paris as it hurtles towards violent revolution, Mishima's play brings the story of the (unseen) Marquis de Sade to life through the eyes of six remarkable women, including his wife Renée (Pike), who – against the wishes of her mother (Dench) — remains vehemently devoted to her husband, the Marquis de Sade, the notorious aristocrat imprisoned in the Bastille for his lurid escapades and licentious behavior.

Pike was last seen on the London stage when she appeared in last year's revival of Patrick Hamilton's Gaslight opposite Kenneth Cranham. Previous stage appearances include Terry Johnson's Hitchcock Blonde (at the Royal Court in 2003, subsequently transferring to the West End's Lyric Theatre) and Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke (in 2006). The Oxford-educated actress is best known for her role as a rogue MI-6 agent in the 2002 Bond feature "Die Another Day" and starred in "The Libertine" opposite Johnny Depp, winning the Best Supporting Actress Award in the British Independent Film Awards. She also starred as Jane Bennet, elder sister of Keira Knightley's Elizabeth, in the 2005 remake of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." TV roles include "A Rather English Marriage," "Wives and Daughters," "Love in a Cold Climate," "The Pursuit of Love" and "Foyle's War."
