Classic Arts News Pirelli Chairman Resigns from La Scala Board Over Arcimboldi Management Pirelli chair Marco Tronchetti Provera has quit the board of directors of Milan's Teatro alla Scala, Agence France-Presse reports.
Provera, a major donor to La Scala, helped to finance the Teatro degli Arcimboldi, the theater that housed La Scala's performances during the opera house's three-year renovation.

It has been reported that Provera is unhappy that management of the Arcimboldi will be transferred from La Scala to the city—with plans to create year-round programming for it through other presenters—even though Pirelli is expected to continue its financial support of the opera house.

He gave his letter of resignation to Milan mayor Gabriele Albertini after a board meeting earlier this week.

Provera's resignation from the opera house board renews the sense of turmoil that was temporarily quieted after St_phane Lissner was appointed superintendent in the wake of protest, strike, and general crisis following the firing of former superintendent Carlo Fontana and leading up to the resignation of music director Riccardo Muti.
