Anne Pitoniak and Joyce Van Patten will star in Concertina’s Rainbow by Glyn O’Malley, the next offering in the 2001 Cherry Lane Alternative's roster of showcase productions of new works by young playwrights. The presentation will run May 9-19.

Also in the cast are Barbara Broughton, Mia Dillon, Jeffrey Plunkett and Jillian Steward. Bob Gasper will direct. Rainbow takes place during the Siberian bombing of Sarajevo and focuses on two American women fleeing to Austria.

The non-for-profit Cherry Lane Alternative has for the last few years fostered the Mentor Project, benefiting budding scribes. This year's quintet of promising writers are tutored by seasoned dramatists and given a showcase production of one of their plays. This year’s mentors are David Henry Hwang, Craig Lucas, Marsha Norman, Alfred Uhry, and Michael Weller. They will look after the fortunes of, respectively, David Wiener, David Adjmi, Cybele Pascal, Glyn O'Malley and Ross M. Berger.

This season’s remaining new plays receiving showcases are:

• May 9–May 19: Concertina’s Rainbow by Glyn O’Malley, directed by Bob Gasper, featuring Mia Dillon and Jeffrey Plunkett
• May 23–June 2: The Shoebox of Ebbets Field by Ross M. Berger, directed by Hayley Finn
• June 6–June 16: Strange Attractors by David Adjmi, directed by Richard Caliban
