Classic Arts News Pittsburgh Opera's 2005-06 Season to Feature Jane Eaglen and Suzanne Mentzer The Pittsburgh Opera will stage Verdi's Rigoletto, Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos, Puccini's Tosca, and Mozart's CosÐ fan tutte in 2005-06, the company announced.
The new production of Ariadne, directed by Chris Alexander, will star soprano Jane Eaglen in the title role, one of her signature parts, and mezzo-soprano Suzanne Mentzer as the Composer. The finale, according to the company, will feature a display of fireworks‹the first ever inside the Benedum Center. Music director John Mauceri conducts.

Tenor Frank Lopardo stars in the season-opening Rigoletto; the production, imported from Cincinnati Opera, also features soprano Laura Claycomb. Tosca is a Franco Zeffirelli production from Covent Garden; CosÐ fan tutte is directed by British stage veteran John Cox.
