Classic Arts News Pittsburgh Symphony Folds Young-Professionals Series into Main Season The Pittsburgh Symphony has combined its early-evening Symphony With a Splash series into its main subscription series, a spokesperson confirmed.
The Thursday-night series, created in 2003 and aimed at young professionals, featured start times of 6:45 p.m., pre-concert cocktails with networking sessions, and commentary by Wall Street Journal critic and composer Greg Sandow.

This season, the orchestra will present three early-evening concerts preceded by networking sessions, to subscribers on Friday nights. Sandow will no longer participate.

"All along, our objective was to integrate our Splash audience, who took the chance, tried something new, and liked it, into our Mellon Grand Classics series," said spokesperson Jody Doherty in an email. "It is an efficient move, one that we believe will satisfy our newly minted Splash audience, while introducing our loyal MGC patrons to some of the innovations first tried in Splash."
