News Plank Project, Mockumentary by Avenue Q Writer, Revived for Benefit Jan. 26 Avenue Q librettist Jeff Whitty's The Plank Project, a wickedly funny sendup of The Laramie Project and other ambitious socially-relevant theatrical docudramas, gets a benefit reading Jan. 26 in Manhattan.

The original 2003 Off-Off-Broadway cast reunites for the reading, directed by Erik Sniedze, who also helmed last year.

Josh Wood presents the benefit for Everybody Wins, a children's literacy organization.

What exactly is The Plank Project?

"In April of last year, seven New Yorkers traveled to Plank, Washington. They were there to explore a fatality and a town," according to production notes. "Over the next year, they conducted 11,478 interviews with the people of Plank. This is what they found. The result is a new mockumentary theatre piece about hope, ambivalence, hate and neglect. And courage. And hope."

The work played a month at the Kraine Theatre in the East Village starting in January 2003. The Plank Project benefit reading is 8 PM Jan. 26 at LOT 61, 550 W. 21st Street. Tickets are $20. For reservations, call (212) 696-6871. Seating is general admission.
