A Broadway revival of Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs, announced as part of a repertory package that was to include the related Broadway Bound, will not happen this season, Variety reported. Producer Emanuel Azenberg told the trade paper the autobiographical show would not be presented on Broadway in the 2000-2001 season. The Broadway Bound plan had been previously scrapped, but until this month Brighton Beach was expected.
The shows were to have started at Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse in early 2001 and move to Broadway. It was not immediately clear if Coconut Grove would stage the Simon play on its own for a South Florida run or replace it with another show.
