Anatoly – Chess
Alicia Marie: Anatoly in Chess : )
Sammie Resnick: Anatoly in Chess!
Sam Aaria: I would love to see him do Chess again. He is so right that it never got its full showing and potential. The music is brilliant and of course his voice is magical and he was perfection in the show. I would love to see him in it.
Annie Deutsch: Chess revival!!!!
Grayson Jostes: I like his idea bring Chess back to Broadway
Shannen Banzhoff: Chess. Please. Chess.
Groban performed in concert versions of the 1988 musical for the Actors Fund and later at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2003, and many Playbill.com readers were keen to see him take on the role of Russian chess champion Anatoly on Broadway. The show features music by Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Richard Nelson and lyrics by Tim Rice. In his exclusive interview with Playbill.com, Groban said that he thought the songs in the show were "so good" and that he longed to see it conceived again in a different way. The song "Anthem" from Chess is featured on "Stages," a track which he performed recently on 'The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."
Bobby – Company
Erika Kilborn: Bobby in Company
Robin Richard: What COULDN'T he play? Bobby in Company
Groban has confessed that he is a big Sondheim fan, and Playbill.com readers also think the pair would be a good match on the musical theatre stage. The Tony-winning Company focuses on New York bachelor Bobby, and through a series of vignettes, the musical examines the ups and downs of marriage, dating, love and heartbreak. The role was most recently played on Broadway by Raúl Esparza, who received a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical.
Vonda Davis: There's only one…SWEENEY TODD!!!
Lori Mannette: Antony in Sweeney Todd!
James Scognamillo: Antony in Sweeney Todd
Another Sondheim favorite, Sweeney Todd has been staged three times on Broadway, most recently in 2006, with Broadway vets Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris in the lead roles. The Tony-winning musical features music and lyrics by Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler and tells the story of a barber who embarks on the ultimate revenge journey, and whose murdered victims become the stuffing for meat pies.
Katherine Nicole: The Phantom!
William Gibek Hedendahl: The Phantom of course
Hayley Goldstein: The Phantom
Kami Flanders: Phantom or Raoul. Yes.
Pam Eargle: Raoul in Phantom
Douglas Daniel Duff: Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera. In 15 years he could play the lead.
Rachel McLemore: Raoul in Phantom. He has a phenomenal voice for the part.
In his interview with Playbill.com, Groban named The Phantom of the Opera as one of his favorite shows and also one of the first he watched as a child. It's no surprise that he was keen to record "All I Ask of You" from the musical (with Kelly Clarkson) for his "Stages" album. Playbill.com readers thought he would be a good match for either The Phantom or Christine's love interest, Raoul.
George – Sunday in the Park with George
Brian Sidders: He could also be Georges in Sunday in the Park with George
Sarah Nicholson: Georges Seurat in Sunday in the Park with George. His "Finishing the Hat" was amazing. I'd love to hear him on the whole score!
Olivia Riddle: Georges Seurat in Sunday!!! Hell, any Sondheim.
Groban's "Stages" album features the Sunday in the Park with George anthem "Finishing the Hat." Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical chronicles the life of French painter Georges Seurat, exploring his career as an artist and his romantic relationships. The show debuted on Broadway in 1984 with Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters in their Tony-nominated leading roles. It was last seen on Broadway in 2008.
Becky Schappell: Marius from Les Miserables
Lynn Murray: Enjoras, Les Miserables
Alison Loughlin: Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. I would love to hear him sing "Bring Him Home" and the epilogue.
Groban does a wonderful job of singing the Les Miz showstopper "Bring Him Home" on his "Stages" album, which is perhaps why numerous Playbill.com readers suggested he take on the role of Jean Valjean. The classic musical is currently playing Broadway's Imperial Theatre, with Tony nominee Ramin Karimloo in the starring role. The multi-award winning musical has been staged around the world and was adapted into an Oscar-winning film starring Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Amanda Seyfried.
Tony – West Side Story
Sally McCloud Routh: Tony, West Side Story…
Mike Martinelli: Tony in West Side Story
Roger Gindi: Tony in West Side Story.
Considered one of the greatest musicals of all time, West Side Story first played the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in 1957. Using Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as inspiration, the musical re-imagines the star-crossed lovers as two members of different gangs from the streets of 1950's New York. The two teens fall in love at a gym dance, causing chaos. The show, with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, was last revived on Broadway in 2011.
