Readers Respond Earlier this week it was reported that "Hairspray" director Adam Shankman will direct and produce an HBO biopic about the life of overbearing stage mom Rose Hovick, who is also the central figure of the classic Broadway musical Gypsy. We wondered: Who should star as Rose in the upcoming HBO film "Madame Rose"?

Daly won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance as Rose in the 1989 Broadway revival of Gypsy. She is also the recipient of six Emmy Awards and is known for her roles on the television series “Cagney & Lacey” and “Judging Amy.” Daly is currently starring in Terrence McNally's Mothers and Sons, which offically opens on Broadway March 24.

She starred as Rose in the 2003 Broadway revival of Gypsy and was recently seen in the NBC television series “Smash,” where she played Ivy Lynn’s (Megan Hilty) mother.

Some of Buckley’s numerous credits include the original Broadway casts of 1776, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Triumph of Love and Cats, for which she won the Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella. Buckley, who starred in both the London and Broadway productions of Sunset Boulevard, was most recently seen in the Off-Broadway production of The Old Friends; she also played Rose in the 1998 Paper Mill Playhouse production of Gypsy.
