News Plays By Grise, Young, Schwend and Formby Set for Kendeda Readings The Alliance Theatre will offer free readings penned by the four finalists in the sixth annual Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Awards in Atlanta.

The four plays follow:

  • blu by Virginia Grise, directed by Susan Reid (Feb. 1 at 2 PM). "The rich and intricate portrayal of a woman from the Hispanic community of Los Angeles who discovers the love and support of another woman in the face of her husband’s incarceration and the death of her son in Iraq."
  • No One But You by Paul David Young, directed by Freddie Ashley (Feb. 1 at 7:30 PM). "An incredible primal love story about two men, both HIV-positive, who meet at the height of the AIDS epidemic."
  • Splinters by Emily Schwend, directed by Del Hamilton (Feb. 2 at 2 PM). "The gripping story of a family falling apart in the wake of a kidnapping."

  • The Small of Her Back by Dana Lynn Formby, directed by Lisa Adler (Feb. 2 at 7:30 PM). "Hilarious, timely, and original take on workplace sexual politics." Also participating will be Kendeda competition winner Ismail Khalidi, whose play Tennis in Nablus is currently being presented at the Alliance. Khalidi will speak on Feb. 1 at 6 PM.

    The free readings will take place in the 3rd Floor Black Box Theatre at the Memorial Arts Building. To reserve seats, phone (404) 733-5000.
