Classic Arts News Plšcido Domingo Misses Opening Cyrano With Infection Tenor Plšcido Domingo will miss tonight's performance of Alfano's Cyrano de Bergerac at the Metropolitan Opera. He is suffering from tracheitis, a bacterial infection of the trachea, according to a Met spokesperson.
Antonio Barasorda will replace Domingo in the title role.

Tonight's performance is the first of six performances of Cyrano through March 16. The spokesperson said that it has not yet been determined when, or if, Domingo will be able to return.

The Met's production, which premiered last season, came about largely because of Domingo's interest in the rarely performed Alfano opera. It is directed by Francesca Zambello; the conductor is Marco Armilato. The cast includes Sondra Radvanovsky as Roxane, Raymond Very as Christian, and Anthony Michaels-Moore as de Guiche.
