Hartford Stage artistic director Michael Wilson stages the co-production (with New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse) of the Williams work that opens Sept. 8 at the Connecticut stage for a run through Oct. 1. (The Paper Mill run plays Jan. 10-Feb. 11, 2007. Plummer will not appear at the latter venue.)

The production is the ninth installment of Hartford Stage’s epic Tennessee Williams Marathon. In the play, "Alma Winemiller, an uptight minister's daughter, secretly pines for the boy next door. Unfortunately, the boy next door is a young doctor whose shocking lifestyle has caused a scandal throughout Glorious Hill, Mississippi. Will Alma's frigid reserve melt in the smoke and heat of her newly awakened desire?"

Joining Kudisch and Plummer in the ensemble will be Terry Beaver, Jennifer Harmon, Nafe Katter, Stephanie Beatriz, Mateo Gomez, Marta Reiman, Johanna Morrison, Bill Kux, Curtis Billings, Elizabeth Capinera and John Ort. Casting for the Paper Mill run is yet to be announced.

Kudisch, last seen in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Broadway, was nominated for a Tony Award for his turn in Thoroughly Modern Millie. The actor has also appeared in Bells Are Ringing, The Wild Party, High Society, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the Beast and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Plummer — who appeared in Hartford Stage's 8 by Tenn — is known for her off-kilter film portrayals in "Pulp Fiction," "So I Married an Axe Murderer" and "The Fisher King." The actress has been nominated for a Tony in the Broadway productions of A Taste of Honey, Pygmalion and Agnes of God — winning for the latter. The design team will feature Tony Straiges (set), David Woolard (costumes), Rui Rita (lighting) and John Gromada (sound). Max Williams serves as assistant director and Elizabeth Maloney as production stage manager.
