Coppedge, Valerie Fagan, Ross Freese, Mark Houston, Sandee Johnson and Peggy Pharr Wilson, 6 Women is billed as "a fast-paced, take-no-prisoners satire of life and pop culture…a wild and very left-of-center view of the world from an entirely feminine standpoint. In a series of bizarre but hysterical songs and sketches, the authors explore road rage, self-help books, TV soap operas, 'genuine press-on nails,' Barbie and Ken's secret fantasy life and what 'is' and 'is not' feminine — with an unforgettable detour through a forest where Bambi goes haywire with an Uzi."
The cast (of six) includes Cheryl Alexander (Caroline, or Change), Amorika Amoroso (Grease), Valerie Fagan (Forbidden Broadway), Joy Franz (Into the Woods), Leisa Mather (Forbidden Broadway) and Pearl Sun (Little Shop of Horrors).
Mark Houston (music/lyrics/co-book) is best remembered for 6 Women. A native of Oklahoma and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Houston maintained a longtime association with the Creede Repertory Theatre, forming collaborations and producing a notable canon of musical theatre pieces for young audiences, including Reggie and the Riddle, Tommyknockers, Commedia Paradia and the poignant Victorian period musical, Harbledown. His opera, Hazel Kirke, based on Steel Mackaye's 19th-century classic, enjoyed its world premiere at the Lake George Opera Festival and received a National Public Radio broadcast shortly after its premiere. Before his untimely death in 1995, his last work for theatre was the musical Changin' Lanes, produced in several regional houses. That show is now finding new life as Heaven in Your Pocket. Director-choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge has worked throughout the United States, in Canada, Great Britain and South Korea. Her credits include Cookin' (Minetta Lane and International Tour); Closer Than Ever and Radio Gals Off-Broadway; Ain't Misbehavin’ in nine regional theatres; On the Town for Arena Stage; Grease, Once on This Island, Damn Yankees, Forum and Kismet for Music Circus. Her first play, the Edgar Award-nominated Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror, co-written with her husband Anthony Dodge, had its world premiere at Bay Street Theatre and its Florida premiere at the Asolo Theatre Company in Sarasota. Later this fall, she will direct the play at the Pioneer Theatre in Salt Lake City.
Kim Douglas Steiner (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) is music supervisor, music director and pianist for the show.
