News Praed Will Join Fisher in U.K. Tour of Sound of Music
Connie Fisher, who originated the role of Maria in the 2006 London Palladium revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, will return to that part for a new U.K national tour, which will also feature Michael Praed as Captain von Trapp.

The tour begins performances July 26 at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, where it runs through Aug. 29, before continuing to Bradford, Southampton, Milton Keynes, Sunderland, Manchester and Edinburgh. Also cast are Margaret Preece as Mother Abbess, Jacinta Mulcahy as Baroness Schrader, Martin Callaghan as Max, Claire Fishenden as Liesl and Jeremy Taylor as Rolf. Kirsty Malpass will play Maria at certain performances.

Fisher won the chance to play the role of Maria by public vote on the BBC1 reality TV series, "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" Following her original run in The Sound of Music, Fisher also starred in a London revival of They're Playing Our Song at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2008. Her second solo CD, "Secret Love," was released in February 2009.

Praed recently appeared in The Murder Game at London's King's Head Theatre. He appeared on Broadway in the short-lived run of The Three Musketeers in 1984, and has been seen in the West End in such shows as Aspects of Love, September Tide, Design for Living, Contact and Beautiful and Damned. He has also toured regionally in Killing Castro, Sleuth and An Ideal Husband, amongst others. On TV he played the title role in "Robin of Sherwood" and Prince Michael of Moldavia in "Dynasty."

The production is directed by Jeremy Sams, with choreography by Arlene Phillips, design by Robert Jones, sound by Mick Potter and lighting by Mark Henderson. It opened at the London Palladium in November 2006 and ran to Feb. 21, 2009.
