Clinton seems to be a fan of Broadway. During previous trip to New York, he has caught performances of the musicals Chicago, Rent and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum..

The Lion King won the 1998 Tony Award for best musical. It opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Nov. 13, 1997 to rave reviews.

The Clinton visit will be a rare recent public appearance for the President that is not connected to the current, sexually-oriented scandal surrounding the White House. The Lion King booking was made months ago.

A Lion King spokesperson at the Boneau/Bryan-Brown press office referred all questions regarding the visit to the White House press department. PBOL was unable to ascertain whether Vice President Al Gore would also join The Lion King entourage.
